Australia is having a toothless Covid Inquiry that excludes all state actions - including vaccine mandates, state border closures, lockdowns, quarantine and check-in rules - from its terms of reference.
I anticipate that the Inquiry will give the appearance of accountability, allowing for the admission of a few marginal errors (a great opportunity for the sitting Labor government to throw mud at the prior Liberal government), while serving to cement the unprecedented pandemic response as the new normal.
This charade has already been run in my home state of Western Australia, where the ‘independent’ pandemic response review concluded that despite “substantial criticism” levied in the more than 70% of public submissions addressing vaccine mandates, the mandates were “warranted” because stakeholders and government officials said so.
Nevertheless, I intend to make a submission, as I did to the WA review also.
Submissions will go on the public record (although you can submit anonymously), and even though I don’t believe that the people running the show actually care what we think, this is an opportunity to manifest dissent. The WA review bulldozed the majority of people who opposed the government’s vaccine mandates, but they had to acknowledge the strength of resistance, and that’s not nothing.
KEY POINTS:
Submissions are due FRIDAY 15 December. I only got wind of this a couple of days ago. Did they only give us a week? Or did they stealth the announcement? I’m not sure.
Submissions are limited to 3 pages, but you can include extra pages as appendices, in up to 5 separate documents
Scope is limited to FEDERAL Government action (or inaction) only
Alison Bevege has given further detail on the Terms of Reference at her Substack, Letters From Australia. She has a good suggestion for how to address vaccine mandates within the scope of this Inquiry:
“…the only way to talk about being sacked for not injecting, is by saying the FEDERAL government failed to introduce anti-discrimination legislation like these two Bills here (that failed to pass).”
Topher Field, of The Aussie Wire, published his submission to X. He makes some good points that might provide inspiration.
I will be sure to mention the government’s wasteful spending on hundreds of millions of doses of vaccines, over half of which were binned. And that’s just the primary series.
To date, the Federal Government has spent at least $18 billion on Covid vaccines and treatments. That’s around $1200 transferred from the pocket of every tax-paying Australian (assuming 15 million taxpayers, based on recent stats), straight into Big Pharma’s coffers.
There is the shameful treatment of the vaccine injured, most of whom can’t even get basic compensation from the extremely narrow Federal scheme.
There is also the matter serious regulatory failures by the Therapeutic Goods Administration, including hiding reported child deaths so as to manipulate public opinion on the vaccination program.
And of course, who could forget former Prime Minister Scomo secretly appointing himself to five different ministries and trying to keep the minutes of national cabinet meetings top secret.
Feel free to add more points in the comments - might as well crowd-source in the limited time we have left.
Good luck!

Dear Government,
Please forgive me, I will not fill out your little boxes because you will never dare criticise the US DOD.
When I have to publish Australia's vaccine contracts because you are too shit scared, you are not serious people.
Lots of love,

I’ve marched, I’ve advocated, I’ve been outspoken, I’ve provided evidence, I’ve fought corporate policy and HR, I’ve withstood barbs and insults and gaslighting and stupidity, I’ve made detailed and considered submissions to proposed legislation, and I’ve watched my government and civic so-called leaders piss on any and all attempts at debate, and instead double- and triple down on the perverse and elaborate corporatised incentive scheme under which they are all operating to push “misinformation” and “conspiracy” down my throat at every opportunity. I’m by no means giving up, but at this stage I will no longer play their game, they do not represent me, I do not consent to their corrupt kabuki theatre review; there is only so many times that the informed public can declare their every deed to have been a failure and every word to have been a lie.
