The funniest part of the Exposure Draft was harms that could be forced by mis/disinformation. One harm was

"Harm to the integrity of [...] government institutions"

It isn't possible to 'harm' the integrity of a govt institution.

It either has integrity, or it doesn't.

It is only possible to shed light on failures in integrity.

Having published on many failures of integrity in various Australian health regulators I have to wonder what the legislation is intending to stop.

Here's the Exposure Draft, if anyone wants to make a last minute submission (due 23:59 tonight) https://www.infrastructure.gov.au/sites/default/files/documents/communications-legislation-amendment-combatting-misinformation-and-disinformation-bill2023-june2023.pdf

I think they meant "harm the PERCEPTION of integrity of government institutions".

Won't be allowed to criticise government anymore, lest people wonder if perhaps government might be a tiny bit corrupt.

I'm not being reductive. This whole bill is so obviously just a process to 'enable tyranny'. The most dim of beautiful minds can see this. Any lawyer worth a pinch of 💩 can see this. Why is this even allowed to be tabled? Debate? On this rubbish? Come on, we are literally talking ourselves to death.. The era of 'this isn't right/fair/just has long gone. We need to be discussing how this gets stopped. I am in no way taking away from your efforts, writing or talent Rebecca, I am a huge fan of your work. I'm just getting frustrated that we know 'protesting our disgust' is not changing anything. We can sum up, 'this is bullshit', BUT WHAT NOW!!

I was having this conversation with someone just yesterday. I still feel that it's important to document these things, so I do it, but I agree that it's also important to be forward looking. I'm not sure of 'what now', but your comment is a reminder for me to keep an eye out for 'what now' stories and make sure I'm telling those too.

Was"two weeks to flatten the curve" misinformation, or, disinformation? Either way, who was it that muttered these words? If memory serves me well, it certainly wasn't any 'conspiracy theorists', or 'anti-vaxxers'. Are the PM, Premiers, senior bureaucrats and talking heads of the MSM to be sanctioned for this blatantly obvious deception - one of the first of way too many? Aren't these the same institutions and people this legislation seeks to exalt, whilst ensuring the sanctioned censorship of all those that questioned this, among many, blatantly false statements. You know who I mean, the people who were right, those this legislation intends to label mis/dis information spreaders.

A complete and utter farce.

If you confront them with this, they'll say: but it's YOUR fault, it would have taken only 2 weeks, but too many of you did not sit still enough, did not wash your hands enough, did not wear your masks enough, and as if that wasn't enough, the vaccines which we had created BEFORE this terrible crisis, which Qaddafi asked "why are you making the vaccines before creating the viruses in front of the UN on his one and only visit to New York in 2009" so we knew right there and then we had to get rid of him... we could have released those vaccines within a week had you not demanded that there be at least two years of trials first!!!

Brilliant submission Rebekah... I put one in as well, for what it's worth... I feel this government will steamroll through this bill, but I refuse to believe it's validity... How can any law exclude certain individuals or organisations... Eg mainstream media or the government... Any LAW must apply equally with no exclusion. It can't be a case of "rules for thee but not for me" ...

Perfectly valid assumptions … however we no longer have a legal system nor any semblance of basic common sense “natural law” to guide us … the country will be moved in a direction that increasingly divides and pits groups against each other, demonises dissent and discriminates against anyone who fails to conform entirely to the “new normal”. It’s not a matter of if, but when … unless there’s a massive awakening by the population (which I cannot see happening) this has the ring of inevitability about it I’m afraid. I hope I am wrong.

Expand full comment

Yeah, I agree, most people have slept through covid and done whatever they were told to do, even if it made no sense at all... The awakening is slow... Most asleep people I know have only just started to cotton on that the vaccines weren't as safe as they were told (lots of myocarditis and the like in the community)... But that's not awake enough to see what's going on, we're on the fast road to a "Chinese democracy"

Expand full comment

I’d suggest most people haven’t even begun to consider that the bulk of what they’re told, shown and conditioned to believe is a fabrication and nothing more than learned, habitual behaviour. I know … when I “woke up” in ~2015 it was jarring, I’ve found maybe 1-2% of people are mentally sound enough to face reality and realise their lives are a massive lie. The rest just go back to sleep … it’s much easier.

Expand full comment

Unfortunately so... I must admit I didn't wake up until they mentioned mRNA injections, I studied microbiology, only briefly, at uni, and knew there's no way anyone knows enough to tinker with such an important, delicate and fragile system... You could risk it localised in a cancer tumour maybe, in small quantities, to try rev up the immune system... But at the quantities currently injected, circulating everywhere, including the brain... All for a "disease" you're likely to survive... WTH???

I still was not fully awake, but I was alarmed, warned a lot of people (with some success, as I whipped out my biology textbooks from uni to show what mRNA is and why messing with it would be a BAD idea)...

I think the day they banned ivermectin the penny dropped... It was a proven safe drug, even if it didn't work there was no harm in using it... None... But risky genetic tech was given lightning approval... Now they want to mandate gene jabs, not even a choice for experimental injection?? WTF... Now one for babies, pregnant mothers need it too... Seriously... Are they trying to kill us??

Record injuries and deaths from jab yet it is not pulled from market?? I was wide awake and since then (even though I was a bit cynical before) the red pill kicked in...

Luckily I know I'm not alone, and a few people I already knew were well ahead of me, I've been catching up a lot since early 2021...

Lost my grandmother to Pfizer jab within a week and half of her second jab... Know a few others in my social circle similar death of loved one, and a few injuries...

I'm hoping their experiences amplify through our population... The asleep who didn't see my concerns, now seem to know someone vac has hurt, and will join in my conversations now (not just politely tolerate me anymore)... So maybe they'll be more awake soon too..?? Fingers crossed there... Most people would rather fold to be comfortable, even though it means their life may end, or their children will grow up enslaved...

I let work fire me rather than cave in to pressure ... and don't regret it at all, I'm not even bitter... Making a stand is good for the soul.

Better late than never. Count your blessings … it’s bizarre just how portentous a movie like The Matrix really feels once you’re out of the proverbial “pod” … problem is life gets harder once you realise that the powers that be regarded the old you as nothing more than human cattle … taxable, pliable, gullible, vain and easily distracted, they lie so habitually it becomes almost impossible to stomach even listening or watching them - it’s why covid and climate change are so easily seen through once you know. Oh well, onwards and upwards, I’ll look out for you on the barricades ;)

I watch it with new eyes now (plus "The Prisoner" from the 60s and even "Eyes Wide Shut", I can see the message about those who control the world now, where I didn't quite "get it" before!)

Rebekah - Great analysis as always! What worries me is that the push for massive censorship of any criticism of elite establishments is almost identical in many countries -- which suggests an internationally coordinated campaign. This isn’t just the Australian government being stupid. They know exactly what they’re doing and it’s part of a much larger effort to cement control of globalist powers. How’s that for some great conspiracy fueled misinformation?

Also, on listed "harms", top of the list, it is considered a harm [to provoke? to express?] "hatred against a group in Australian society on the basis of ethnicity, nationality, race, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion or physical or mental disability;"

The thing is, I'm on substack, and not on twitter, because I was required to delete a tweet designated as a "hate" tweet. It was an exceptionally boring tweet in a conversation about being bitten by mosquitos. I kid you not. If I delete that tweet I will be allowed back on twitter. However I will have a strike against my name for posting a 'hate' tweet. They only need to do the same thing one or two more times and I'm deleted forever for hate. The tweet is here, if anyone wants the context and responses: https://madeleinelove.substack.com/p/can-anyone-explain-at-a-loss

The only group deserving of every bit of opprobrium in this country from politicians, the media, employers and the healthcare industry was apparently “the unvaccinated” … no amount of circumspection, intuition, information, critical thinking or demonstration of contrary evidence was enough to stave off the relentless attacks … apparently we “deserved” the hate from everyone and anyone, so egregious was our stance. So much for “harms”. If it weren’t so ridiculous it would be tragic.

Dumb and dumber. It's obvious that you were referring to mosquitos and not to an ethnic or religous group. But if you expose the incompetence and stupidity of those responsible for the censorsip of your tweet any further you'll be at risk of being accused of fomenting hate against low IQ people.

Very well written and detailed Rebekah, thankyou for putting in the time.

We live in crazy dangerous times. It seems like sheer madness that this bill has been put up at all in its current state. And yet so little is being said about it in the MS which probably shouldn’t surprise me, but I don’t like the tendency to write anything off wholesale because that kind of looseness with complexity plays into their hands. There were a few articles in the Australian but it’s impossible to know what effect they had, and very little follow up as well which seems to indicate a lack of interest or recognition of significance.

There was a hot mic moment recently where journos were talking about the journalist who wrote the Covid science front page article in the Oz. I couldn’t believe their ignorance. It really seems the case that many just can’t see the wood for the trees, they’re living their careers for what they’re worth and exhibit a complete lack of curiosity, which shows a dull confidence in the mainstream narrative.

What will it take to wake these types up?

Incredible write-up, Rebekah, detailed, thorough, accurate. The problem however is the phrase “The government is always right, and everything else is misinformation” that you highlighted - you may as well substitute “government” with “experts” or “fact-checkers” or “corporate profiteers” or even “the globalist elite cartel crafting our digital green tyrannical utopia” … it doesn’t really matter.

Without a genuine, wide scale mindset shift by the bulk of the population, including a majority of those working in these agencies, bureaucracies etc who simply “do their job” but do so under the belief that they are better, smarter, more worthy and therefore important enough to be part of “the decision makers” who craft the narratives, this cannot and will not change. The ACMA report from June 21 to me, more than almost any other bullshit document I’ve read during the past 2 years, is evidence that this cannot be slowed, nor stopped. It will continue until such time as either things “break” or the shutters on liberty are pulled down … the flattered ideologues and the manipulative deceivers working in these agencies concocting reports, surveys and studies either need to be physically removed, or experience a genuine come-to-Jesus moment if we’re to have a chance.

I say 'break' and the 'shutters pulled down' pretty much simultaneously.

The come to Jesus moment is an 80-1 outsider, at this stage.... but miracles do happen, not often it's true, but occasionally, under Grace.

I think this bullshit law will go through. Your points are impeccable, Rebekah. That is why they want you silenced. They need this law in place for the next "crisis" or "state of emergency". I think it will be some sort of global finacial collapse and UBI and CBDCs will be the saviour and anyone who points out the loss of freedom and risk of tyranny will be shut down for "misinformation" or even called potential domestic terrorists.

It was a bipartisan contention that Iraq in 2003 still possessed illegal weapons of mass destruction. A document was fabricated purporting in the US to show that Saddam had attempted to aquire uranium from West Africa. Even the Opposition Leader at the time said that the evidence of this was "incontrovertible." Questioning this bullshit, which was obvious from the get go to anyone with half a brain was bullshit, would have been prohibited under the proposed ACMA censorship and propaganda regime. Questioning the science, or lack of it, behind the former White Australia Policy would have been prohibited. Questioning the science and wisdom behind the proposal to introduce a cane toad into Queensland to control the cane beetle would have been prohibited. Questioning the science behind the bullshit findings of the former NSW District Court ChiefJudge reginald blanch that there was no reasonable doubt that Kathleen Folbigg murdered her children would have been difficult. Overturning the bullshit conviction of Lindy Chamberlain would have been difficult. It needs to be remembered that the greatest harm to the public is caused by governments through democide. Democide is the biggest cause of non-natural death apart from war, which is also caused by governnent. What is being proposed for ACMA is worse than the censorship in Nazi Germany. This is chilling repression.

In what way do you think it's worse than Nazi censorship?

Although the Nazis deemed anything that was counter to their propaganda narratives to be misinformation or disinformation in the same way that ACMA does, the technology to implement censorship and to thereby promote propaganda and to prevent the exposure by independent investigative journalists of corruption and malfeasance on the Orwellian scale of ACMA did not exist during the Nazi era.

The only thing we need ask ourselves is “who went to prison for lying about WMD’s in Iraq, starting a war and killing upwards of a million Iraqi civilians, men, women and children, destroying practically all infrastructure in the country, and setting up a decades long corporatised “rebuilding” effort to enrich a handful of global corporations and steal trillions in oil?” … if the answer isn’t at least 500, we are completely buggered.

This:"The report references “increasing concern” about a perceived increase in “misinformation” online, measured by survey respondents reporting how much misinformation they believe they have seen."

Is exactly what has happened in New Zealand.

Prior to Covid there was some noise about 'fake news' but during Covid it ramped up to asking people specifically about mid/disinfo in surveys for NGOs and government agencies, all the while filling the mainstream media with the dangers of mis/disinfo.

In late 2022 our key govt agency in charge of this, released a survey that asked 1,001 people what are the biggest threats and somehow mis/disinfo - with no definition or examples - became the 2nd biggest threat behind a natural disaster! They've used this here as justification for a raft of policies to tackle mid/disinfo, exactly as in this post.

It's insane as they create the problem, then try to offer the solution - yet offer no defined outcome or even definition of either!
