"However, Senate Whip Anne Urquhart (Labor) quickly communicated that Labor had voted in error, asking for a revote." . . Oh I had to laugh out loud at my mental image of Labor's backbench faces realising they'd utterly muffed their directive, and having to be hauled back-on-track, void of humility or conscience.

Great article ++. Keep chipping away.

Nearly voted to remove unethical, unnecessary, and (frankly, at this point) vindictive discrimination, ooopsie!

On the positive side, this is progress though - that's about 17 more LNP senators voting yes compared to the 2021 vote. Also, these politicians are coerced by their parties to vote a certain way so it's quite likely that more than 50% privately agree with the bill. What is needed is, perhaps, someone else to bring this bill rather than One Nation as the ALP would never support a One Nation bill on principle. I'm sure that even the ALP can't still believe those out-of-date 2021 talking points; this "fringe agenda" is now mainstream public opinion. Thanks Rebekah for reporting on this.

Thanks Rebekah, keep up the good fight. I'm ever hopeful truth will win, particularly with good folk like yourself arguing based on provable facts & figures.👏👍

It's just a matter of what the timeline is. Like are we talking a few years, a few generations, or a civilisational cycle 😆

My experience speaking in person to several politicians during the Covid years is that they really know diddly squat about the disease.

Similar to your ability Rebekah to understand Covid-related medical concepts at a far deeper level than the vast majority of medical practitioners.

I agree that to the Labor Party voting against Pauline Hanson is a sine qua non, similar to Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Gareth just wondering, as a medical practitioner why do you think you were able to spot the problems with the Covid vaccines and narrative when other medical practitioners couldn’t/didnt?

I have always had a good "bullshit detector".

Most doctors don't, and are skilled in information retention rather than critical analysis.

The ability to make it through medical school has always depended on a brain that can rote learn information rather than assess its validity.

Most medical practitioners continue down that path throughout their careers.

It can be seen as left versus right brain dominance, or quantitative versus qualitative thinking.

I have always seen myself as an outsider in medicine.

Thanks Gareth. This answers the question well. I am a research scientist and my immediate response to anything new is to gather information. I couldn't understand why I knew more than many doctors and nurses I knew or came in contact with when this was their specialty.

Wonderfully researched and articulated perspective, as always, Rebekah. If it weren't so serious and the stakes so high, one would simply laugh at these incomprehensibly obtuse politicians.

I think what Ian said is right - truth comes out / wins in the end, it’s just a matter of time.

Dear Rebecca and all the people who read this.

I am frankly terrified of the possibility that our WA govt could at any time, as long as this or any future state of emergency exists, without Parliamentary consent needed, or a warrant issued, allow the police to arrest me, and forcibly inject me with a substance that may kill or injure me. And then if I'm still alive with induced injury, deny that I am injured from this injection.

Have I got any part of this wrong?

For me this creates mental torture NOW. How about you?? Then ultimately physical torture of a most malevolent nature. Torture is defined as:

the action or practice of inflicting severe pain or suffering on someone as a punishment or in order to force them to do or say something.

as in "the torture of political prisoners"

Is it too outrageous to say that the citizens of WA are being tortured and already in a mental, emotional and political, virtual prison?

Rebecca I thank you for your top quality journalism especially analysing the contents of Urquhart's speech.

Folks if you have any daily practices that help you manage yourself in these times please share. I am having trouble living a normal life.

I completely agree Mike. Ever since I discovered that our government can legally force inject us, I have felt permanent low grade anxiety which amps up to medium-high when politicians have signalled irrationality and/or escalating ‘emergency’ policies.

For me, I’m dealing with this by establishing a base overseas with a view to making a quick escape from WA if a state of emergency is declared in the future. I also deal with the fear by cultivating a spiritual practice and connection, and focusing on the moment - for today, in this moment, I am ok.

I would be interested to know how other West Australians cope with the knowledge that our laws allow the government to force medical procedures on us without our consent, if they so choose.

Dear Rebecca

Thank you for commenting. It's good to hear from you. As you have stated your interest as to how we cope with our knowledge and the fears arising from that knowledge, may I suggest using your wonderful journalism skills to gather in the the most honest wise and helpful practices people are engaging in? I would be keen to contribute to that.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention and identifying those who voted against. I have contacted all the senators for my state who voted it down to let them know my disappointment.
